"A man is ethical only when life, as such, is sacred to him, that of plants and animals as that of his fellow men, and when he devotes himself helpfully to all life that is in need of help. "      - Albert Schweitzer

While you will often see the terms "assistance" and "therapy" used throughout this section, there is really a distinction between assistance animals and therapy animals. In a very simple explanation, service or assistance animals, aid their human companion with physical needs, by performing as an extension for one of the major senses. Therapy animals provide psychological, physiological, emotional, or social comfort to the humans they interact with.
